Greek Keyboard Help
Greek input
The writing block transliterates automatically — you never need to switch your operating-system keyboard. Two modes are available per drill page:
- AUTO (default): English QWERTY keystrokes become Greek letters.
- NATIVE: keys pass through untouched, for users with a real Greek keyboard layout installed. Pasted Greek text is never altered in either mode.
Letter map (AUTO mode)
| Key | Greek | Key | Greek | Key | Greek |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| a | α | i | ι | r | ρ |
| b | β | k | κ | s | σ / ς |
| g | γ | l | λ | t | τ |
| d | δ | m | μ | u | υ |
| e | ε | n | ν | f | φ |
| z | ζ | x | ξ | c | χ |
| h | η | o | ο | y | ψ |
| q | θ | p | π | w | ω |
Shift gives capitals: A → Α, B → Β, etc.
Final sigma is automatic. s produces σ inside a word and ς at the end:
typing logos gives λογος. If you place the cursor after a final ς and type
another letter, it becomes σ again.
Breathings (dead keys)
Type the dead key BEFORE the vowel that carries the breathing:
)smooth breathing:)a→ ἀ,)e→ ἐ,)o→ ὀ(rough breathing:(a→ ἁ,(o→ ὁ,(h→ ἡ
With diphthongs the breathing belongs on the second vowel:
οἱ is typed o(i, εἰμι is typed e)imi.
Iota subscript (dead key)
|a→ ᾳ,|h→ ῃ,|w→ ῳ — or type it after the vowel:tw|→ τῳ
Breathing and iota subscript combine: (|w → ᾡ.
Diaeresis (dead key)
:i→ ϊ,:u→ ϋ — also works after the vowel:ai:→ αϊ
Pitch accents
Not needed and never graded. λογος and λόγος are the same answer here.
Keyboard flow in a drill
Each drill is one writing block: type each paradigm horizontally on ONE line, forms left to right separated by spaces, in the order shown above the block.
- Enter: next line (the next paradigm of the set)
- Ctrl+Enter (or the Check button): check the whole set
- After a perfect repetition, Enter starts the next blank repetition
- Esc: clear the status line
